Are You Afraid of the Dark
Lasting for seven seasons, this popular scary show was based around a group of teens called the Midnight Society, who met every week to tell stories in the woods.
The Tale of the Dark Music
Andy, along with his mom and sister, move into their deceased uncle's old house. Andy soon learns that when music is played in the basement, a strange, demonic creature emerges.
- This story was told by Eric.
- This episode actually deals with being afraid of the dark. That's a theme that turns up in the campfire scenes, and it also turns up in the story itself.
- This episode features a lot of corny lines -- the worst one being "Howdy neighbor!"
- The bully, Koda, was hilarious.
- The imagery that the demon chooses to use is very interesting ... for instance, the life-size doll. The image of the carnival was weird too. Why would the demon choose to manifest itself like that?
- Spoiler alert: Andy killed the bully. And at the end, acts like he'll kill his sister too.
- The radio plays some great 90's-style guitar music.
The Tale of Jake and the Leprechaun
Jake is going through changes -- and not just puberty.
- Frank was "supposed" to tell the story, but Eric told the story because his grandfather died.
- The play they're performing is called "Will o'the Wisp"
- So ........ the evil teacher lives at the school? And has pictures of little boys on his wall???
- In a very rare turn of events, adults end up playing major roles in the story. Usually child actors handle most of the roles. The episode definitely benefitted from David Steinberg and John Dunn-Hill's more mature and advanced acting chops.
- This episode may have some of the most memorable one-liners, like "Lucky charms and four leaf clovers!"
- "Aaron's a banshee .... the cruelest of all the pixies!"
- And my favorite -- "Yours be mine and mine be yours!" Don't forget the accent.
- This episode has one of the most exciting climaxes of the series.
